Day 1 - Saturday March 29th
We arrived on Saturday on our flight from Milwaukee about 3:00pm. We took a shuttle from the airport to our flat in the neighborhood of Greenpoint Brooklyn. We had our flat rented for the week till the next Saturday. We unpacked, bought some weekly passes for the Metro (i.e. subway and bus system) and headed over to the Brooklyn bridge. This area of Brooklyn is called DUMBO (i.e. Down Under Manhattan Brooklyn Overpass). Both bridges leave Brooklyn over the east river to Manhattan from this area. It’s known for it’s great views of Manhattan and the harbor. The weather was not good this day. We had a lot of rain to deal with. We took a walk on the bridge and got completely soaked in the process. We ate dinner at Grimaldi’s pizza. We headed back home to our place, stopping off to buy groceries at a local market.
The neighborhood we at staying in is an interesting mix of polish and hipster. It’s got some great polish deli’s and bakeries and the younger folks have discovered the neighborhood and are moving. it would be a great neighborhood to buy into now. Our place is nicer than I expected. It’s quite roomy, everything is new and it’s decorated very well. We are very pleased.
